Hello, fiends and beloved readers!
At Broom Book & Candle, our hearts beat for stories that challenge, thrill, and sometimes, leave a scar. We are a sanctuary for the speculative and a refuge for the feminist slant in fiction. That's why, in honor of Women in Horror Month—a global celebration held every March—we are absolutely thrilled to announce our most wicked collaboration yet.
Broom Book & Candle is officially partnering with the Southern Colorado Women in Horror Festival!
This partnership is a meeting of minds dedicated to the incredible women who shape the horror landscape. While the festival celebrates the diverse voices of female-identifying creators in the genre, our mission is to ensure those voices reach your ears (and bookshelves)!
Celebrating Women in Horror Month Together
March is about shining a spotlight on the underrepresented work of women in horror, whether they are on the screen, behind the camera, or on the page. By joining forces with the Southern Colorado Women in Horror Festival, we’re expanding the safe space we’ve cultivated for writers and readers to explore the genre’s emotional depth, cultural relevance, and sheer terror.
We believe that horror is a powerful storytelling mode that builds empathy and community, and we are committed to showcasing the groundbreaking perspective women bring to the haunted heart of the genre.
Fearsome & Feminine: Author Appearances & Hybrid Panels
We aren’t just celebrating from afar; we are bringing the screams directly to you. This year’s festival features a powerhouse lineup of authors available through both in-person sessions in Pueblo, Colorado, and a global virtual livestream. Whether you are joining us at Analogue Books or tuning in from your own haunted living room, you won’t want to miss these titans of the genre.
SoCo Women in Horror is proud to present appearances by:
-
CJ Leede (Maeve Fly)
-

The festival will feature two distinct ways to engage: an In-Person Panel for those local to Southern Colorado and a Virtual Panel streamed worldwide. These sessions will dive deep into identity, the "Final Girl" trope, and how women writers are reshaping horror archetypes from lived experience.
Bonus for Bookworms: We will have books from these featured authors available for sale for In-person attendees, complete with exclusive signed bookplates!
Moderating the Mayhem
Creepaway Camp creator, Amanda Shafer, will be taking on the role of moderator at the SOCO Women in Horror Festival, guiding panel conversations and facilitating Q&A from both the live audience and virtual panel attendees.
